Scarborough. Some say this is the world's first seaside resort; certainly Scarborough has attracted visitors for over 400 years. From two splendid bays, separated by the mighty castle headland, the town is reached by Victorian Cliff Lifts. With some of the finest formal gardens in Britain, an exciting shopping centre and a variety of nightlife and family fun, Scarborough ranks among the top resorts in Europe. Visitor attractions also include the Sea Life Centre, Peasholm Park, the Stephen Joseph Theatre and the open air heated swimming pool.
The Heritage Coast starts at Scarborough and there are many lovely walks, beautiful bays and charming hamlets close by. The North Yorks Moors National Park is only seven miles away and combines the solitude of the heather moor with the picturesque villages of Goathland (Heartbeat Country) and Hutton-le-Hole.
Sporting visitors will enjoy the Scarborough Cricket Festival, the Leisure Centre, Indoor Bowls Centre or the many golf courses in the area.
Other attractions: If you prefer the slower pace of days gone by you will find the North Yorks Moors steam railway, Eden Camp Wartime Museum, Castle Howard and many other stately homes within easy driving distance. A little further away is York with its magnificent Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre, splendid shopping and dozens of other attractions.
Local walks: Alternatively you can step out of the front door of Sea Views and enjoy the Cleveland Way cliff top walk to either Scarborough, 2 miles, or Filey, 6 miles. Do watch out for the seals sun bathing on the rocks. Also look out for wild deer often seen scampering down from the woods and on to the beach. The short 5-10 minute walk down through the woods will take you to the beach and the beautiful Cayton Bay, well known for its surfing enthusiasts.
